A former industrial gas works, Bath Western Riverside was allocated for regeneration in the Local Plan with an outline planning application submitted in 2006 with consent being granted in 2010 for c.2000 homes. Since then, the 44 acre site has undergone an extensive transformation with Crest Nicolson completing the first phase of c. 800 homes. The second phase of the site is being regenerated separately by developer Berkley Group / St. William and Bath & North East Somerset Council.
